Minivans, generally, have a bad rap, but the 2024 Kia Carnival is the minivan, or Life Utility Vehicle (LUV), for any family. This elegant SUV-looking minivan has oodles of space and cargo-carrying capacity to die for and is brim-full of technology.

Notable Changes From the Previous Year

There are very minor changes for the 2024 Kia Carnival.

Trims

There are three trims available, but two have Plus variants. The entry-level Carnival is the LX, which starts at $39,183*, and the LX+ variant starts at $42,683*. Next is the EX, which has a base price of $46,683*, with the variant EX+ starting at $49,983*. The premium trim is the SX, which has a base price of $52,683*.

Infotainment and Technology Features

Infotainment and Technology Features

The standard infotainment screen in the Carnival is eight inches wide, but there’s an option for a stunning dual 12.3-inch display that stretches across two-thirds of the Carnival’s dashboard. This dual-screen setup uses one screen to carry all the infotainment and the second to carry the driver’s vehicle status. Both screens are customisable.

The Carnival is fitted with a six-speaker audio system, but the premium trims have a 12-speaker BOSE stereo fitted. There is a full smartphone and Bluetooth connectivity with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features. Rear seat entertainment screens are optional. The Carnival is fitted with a Passenger View Monitor that allows the driver to monitor the passengers in the rear seats.

There are USB charging ports and a 12-volt power outlet at the front as well as in the cargo area.

Exterior Design

Exterior Design

The Carnival has a bold and athletic profile that’s inspired by SUV design. There’s a wide array of exterior colours for the Carnival, allowing you to express your personality. The elegant and sophisticated silver-finished front grille sits between LED headlights and above a dark lower grille. Black window surrounds add to the sophisticated look.

At the rear, there’s a wide expanse of glass, ensuring excellent rear vision and a rear spoiler. The slim-line rear tail lights stretch from one side to the other, with the Kia logo breaking the line in the centre.

The car sits on 17 or 19-inch alloy wheels that are built to look good and provide robust performance. On the roof, there are roof rails to provide additional storage space for the family on the go.

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

Interior Comfort and Cargo Space

The cabin of the Kia Carnival is designed to make commuting and other trips effortless and very comfortable. There’s a large centre console with ample storage.

The Carnival has three rows of seats, eight of which are well-designed for head and leg room. The second row of seats can be removed, but the Prestige has a special party trick. The SX Prestige trim has an option of changing the second row to VIP lounge seats. At the touch of a button, these leather-trimmed, ventilated and heated seats will recline with a footrest that pops up, making it perfect for long road trips. The only downside to these seats is that they will not fold away if extra cargo space is required.

There are many additional creature comforts, such as automatic multi-zone climate control and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. A panoramic sunroof is an optional extra and provides a large opening in the roof when fully opened.

There is ample cargo space in the Carnival. With the rear seats in the upright position, it has 1139 litres of space, but lower the rear seats, and there is a vast 4110 litres of space.

Performance Features (Engine Type, Horsepower, Torque)

All the Carnival trims have the same powertrain. The motor is a 3.5-litre V6 Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) Lambda III engine, making 290 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque, paid with an eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels only.

For a large vehicle, the Carnival has a refined engine that responds quickly to the accelerator, giving a well-balanced ride and fantastic handling. It drives smoothly on the straights and is composed and well-mannered in the corners.

For a big car with a 3.5-litre engine, the Carnival is surprisingly frugal on fuel. Around town, a driver can expect around 12.1 L/100km, with 9.0 L/100km on the highway.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

Built on a robust frame to absorb any impacts to driver assistance features, the Carnival is engineered to protect the occupants. It received a “Good” rating from the IIHS for crash-testing, and there’s a wide range of driver assistance features.

The driver assistance features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, automatic high-beam headlights and blind-spot monitoring.

Ready To Take The Next Step?

The Carnival proves that reports of the minivan’s death have been greatly exaggerated. This versatile LUV is a comfortable vehicle with great performance and safety. If you’re ready to take the next step and test drive one, come on into Tillsonburg Kia and choose your favourite trim.
